沿革
Laboratory of Zoology, established at 1920 and the longest history in our Department, is specialized for the research of the mammalian reproductive system and spermatology including sperm structure, spermatogenesis as well as sperm stem cell. At the present time, we are interested in the molecular architecture of spermatozoa, molecular mechanism regulating spermiogensis as well as epigenetic regulation for stem cell differentiation.
動物学研究室は九州大学農学部発足時（大正9年）に動物学第一講座として設立され、九大農学部では最も長い歴史を持つ講座で、発足当時は農学科に所属していました。現在は資源生物科学部門に所属しています。発足当時は海洋生物や小型哺乳類の系統分類、生態、繁殖機構の研究を行っていました。現在は、形態学的研究手法に加えて、遺伝子・タンパク質解析を軸にした研究を推進しており、哺乳類の生殖機構を発生生物学的見地から解明することを目指しています。特にSpermatology(精子学)を柱として、精子の分子構造、形態形成、鞭毛運動機構に関して数多くの研究成果を発表しています。精子幹細胞の分化におけるエピジェネティック制御機構の研究も推進しています。
